PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Satellites, GNSS and Aviation – development projects

Active receive paths, navigation antennas and scientific telemetry.

Technical tasks and solutions

We develop new antennas and RF assemblies, optimize existing products and integrate radio technology into real devices. The following tasks show our experience with specific frequency bands, installation situations and interfaces. The scope of a new project is determined based on your requirements.

Satellites, GNSS and Aviation

LTE-MIMO and active GNSS for railway technology

We designed the positioning and decoupling of two LTE MIMO antennas and an active GNSS antenna under the specifications of the housing, ground planes and sources of interference.

The GNSS path included an LNA, filtering, power supply, protective circuitry and RF matching. We simulated antennas, matching networks and transmission-line paths, then optimized the impedance-controlled layout.

Prototypes were examined for S-parameters, decoupling, efficiency, radiation pattern, reception sensitivity and GNSS signal quality. The results led to adjustments to positions, paths and LNA integration.

VHF antenna integration on the aircraft

We investigated directional antennas at 164 MHz on the aircraft. We first measured the installed antennas and cables separately and as a complete signal path using a vector network analyzer.

The electromagnetic models depicted the antenna in free space as well as with the aircraft structure, bracket and mounting accessories. We compared position, distance and tilt and calculated the effects on impedance matching, surface currents and spatial radiation pattern.

By comparing the variants, we derived recommendations for installation and antenna position. Separating the radiating element, feed line and installation environment systematically also forms the basis for comparable tasks on other aircraft.

Antenna assemblies for scientific space telemetry

We carried out the simulation and metrological investigation of transmitting and receiving antennas for scientific telemetry links at 402.25 and 468.25 MHz. The designs examined included circularly polarized patch and quadrifilar helix antennas as well as antenna groups with phase-controlled feeding.

We assessed radiating elements, radomes, feed networks and active receive components separately and together. The scope included preparation of measurement campaigns, impedance measurements and evaluation of gain, radiation pattern, half-power beamwidth and axial ratio; phase center was also investigated in the corresponding test setups.

The results were documented for the comparison of the electromagnetic model and the real assembly. For new projects, we coordinate the scope of measurement, model level, interfaces and required evidence on a mission-related basis.
